Punjab: High alert in the state after grenade attack on Intelligence office, police suspects terrorist conspiracy...

 



A high alert has been sounded in the state after a grenade attack on the headquarters premises of the Intelligence Unit of Punjab Police in Mohali on Monday night. Police have sealed the Chandigarh-Mohali border and vigorous checking of all vehicles is being done. Punjab Police has expressed apprehension of terrorist conspiracy regarding this grenade attack. Police teams are probing the matter thoroughly and CCTV cameras of the city are being scanned. After the developments, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held a high-level meeting with the DGP and officials to get all the information and ordered an in-depth investigation.

Opposition expresses concerns about Punjab's security system

After the incident, the leaders of the opposition have expressed deep concern about the security of the state. Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Vading has demanded an in-depth inquiry into the incident and action against the culprits. Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal strongly condemned the incident and said it exposed the security gaps in the state. Former Home Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has said that this incident is an attempt to spoil the atmosphere of Punjab and it should be investigated deeply. BJP President Ashwani Sharma has also tweeted and termed the incident as a conspiracy to spoil the atmosphere in Punjab and demanded an inquiry.


Terrorist activities are being seen continuously in Punjab.

Significantly, at around 7:45 pm on Monday night, a grenade attack was carried out in the State Vigilance Office premises located in Sector 77 of Mohali. The explosion was so strong that the glass in the office building was shattered. A Punjab Police official told reporters that there were no casualties in the incident. The police officer said, "There has been a minor explosion in the intelligence building complex. Investigation is on and our senior officers reached the spot and took stock. The attack took place when the office was on holiday and most of the employees had left. Punjab is witnessing continuous terrorist activities. Punjab Police had arrested 2 persons with 1.5 kg RDX and other explosive material a few days back.

ADGP Internal Security RN Dhoke had told that Tarn Taran police had received secret information that Baljinder Singh alias Bindu, resident of Gujjarpura village of Ajnala in Amritsar and Jagtar Singh alias Jagga, resident of village Khanowal, were roaming in Nowshera Pannuan area with explosive material. Immediately the police team was alerted and both were nabbed during the investigation. A black colored box was found from the accused, in which IED timer, datanet, battery and shrapnel were recovered. There was about one and a half kilograms of RDX in it. Let us tell you that earlier Haryana Police had nabbed 3 Khalistani terrorists. His intention was to commit murders and spread instability in Punjab.
